March Madness! Who wants to join a month long, o March Madness!

Who wants to join a month long, once a week dive deeper practice group?

What will we work on - strengthening basics around distractions and adding new behaviors as we go along.

Feedback I’ve had in the past is that everyone wanted a set smaller group (no drop ins and a relaxed vibe), and to vary locations (heck, we could hike in Auburn and get a snack or coffee afterwards).

I’m organizing a Friday or Saturday group (both if we have the numbers). $400 per handler, one dog per handler, no aggression (dogs or people), you must have done 2 private appointments with me. We can nail down a start time for Friday or Saturday once we have enough interested & ready to commit.

Delighted to watch him trust the guidance & feedback he was getting and become more confident with each repetition. He was hopping onto the cot all on his own at the end of our session. Learning this behavior will help when we tackle loading in the car. Such a fun dude! #bernedoodle #placetraining #confidencebuilding #dogtraining #sacramentodogtrainer

Hello 2023! I’m 6 months post back surgery, ho Hello 2023!

I’m 6 months post back surgery, home from vacation, eager for the Nor Cal rain to lighten up, and ready to kick off new dog training programs this year.

As many of you know I’m no longer offering board & train. This change sure does open up the schedule for other possibilities!

What offerings do you all want besides private appointments and phone consults?

Practice groups?
Single subject workshops?
Day Train packages?
Group walks?

I’d really love your feedback so please pipe in people!

Messages like this one mean the world to me. Thank Messages like this one mean the world to me. Thank you for making my day Remy & Vivian. Bringing new puppies home is like bringing home an infant - it can be very overwhelming in those first weeks and months. Love guiding clients through that time and helping get them off to a great start. 🐶♥️💪🏼 #puppytraining #raisethemwell #doberman

Floki Bear Fact: The first walk outside the home w Floki Bear Fact: The first walk outside the home went wonderfully because we have been practicing every element around the house since 8 weeks old. Floki knows the markers “GOOD” (keep doing it, I might bring reward to you) and “YES” (you did it, you’re done, you can get reward from me). He knows that the leash/line is something worth both following and yielding to. I have reinforced joining me on and off leash in the yard and around the house when I say, “Let’s Go” and if he checks in nicely with me on his own. I’m using the leash to softly create a pocket of space near me that for him feels like a sweet spot of goodness. In this clip I am purposely walking in the street so his initially experience will not have the distractions/conflict of dogs behind fences or grass/shrubs with lots of smells that he might find more interesting then me. I will select places & times to release him so he can have a clear “break” to sniff & potty. I want to create both engagement with me and a sense of security in that pocket so nothing out there in the big world is a wonderful as me (or scary). I am delivering reinforcement on the side he is on & in the spot I want him to be, keeping the line loose (so ignoring or gently blocking what I don’t want), adding a visual cue that will be important later for off leash, and using a slightly longer line (7 feet) so I can allow and create space when it’s needed, moving my bait bag to the side I’m working on, holding the line with the opposite hand so my near hand can be ready to indicate & reward (all while holding the phone to film 😂). I kept this first session very short (less than 5 minutes…which left him wanting more). Not filmed, the Break with a love-fest petting & kisses session. 😊 #puppytraining #leashwalking #miniaussie #dogtraining
Floki Bear Fact: We taught layers of signaling to Floki Bear Fact: We taught layers of signaling to go outside for potty. We started with a Sit-by-the-door to signal to go outside. We added a floor bell that he hit with his body (intentionally and unintentionally) & we rang each time we went “Outside” if he failed to (sometimes you just need to get them out quickly). Once he was signaling nicely with his Sit signal and consistently ringing the floor bell without prompting we added the wall Smart Bell. In this clip: he wants to go out and signals that with a Sit and eye contact. It’s raining out so he’s less than thrilled to go out there. Note that I point to the bell wordlessly and ignore his mistake but wait patiently for him to hit the bell. He’s ringing this on his own routinely now (15 weeks old) but I wanted to show you a wordless point and wait so you could see him problem solve. #smartbell #puppytraining #pottytraining

Floki Bear Fact: Puppies need rest! They are benef Floki Bear Fact: Puppies need rest! They are benefitted by daily alone time from you and the other resident dogs. I crate Floki separately for daytime naps (whether I leave the house or not) routinely, to build his ability to cope with daily separations & to insure he gets the rest his mind & body needs. As he matures I will begin to crate him with the other dogs but I will continue to regularly separate them all on a daily basis for one-on-one training & for outings. Creating these daily separations from you and the other dogs, as ordinary and routine, will help avoid issues of separation anxiety that can develop when you have too much togetherness. #puppytraining #puppiesneedrest #dogtraining
PLACE! Dog trainer happiness is when you work with PLACE!
Dog trainer happiness is when you work with clients on Place and that same night the clients send a picture & message that their dog, Harper, is going to Place & rocking it! Place will be a command that is so important for these clients, they’re expecting a baby in March and the couch is no longer going to be Harper’s zone. #dogtraining #cavapoo #place #4legs4pets
